Afternoon Tea

Built in the 19th century by the Lecky family Ballykealey House was very much in keeping with the neighbouring gentry houses, however its uniqueness was derived by the wide open rolling landscape that surrounds the house.

Sweeping lush pastures were grazed by cattle and horses all of which could be viewed from the drawing room and was fenced off using the ingenious method known as the ha ha fence. The fence consists of sunken ditches, creating the illusion of continuity between the gardens, the lawns and the wide open parkland.

Oak Room Restaurant

Big Houses were always seen as the centre of entertainment and in this regard down through the centuries Ballykealey House played its part as the Lecky family entertained the elite of the Carlow landed class. One such event was even published in the Carlow Sentinel in September 1865 remarking on the guestlist.

Today Ballykealey takes advantage of the lavish architecture and original features of the house. The Oak Room is considered the finest room in the house with magnificent solid oak carved wall panels, intricate coving and stately fireplace.

It is the perfect setting for an intimate dinner with friends, family, loved ones or work colleagues. Enjoy exceptional cuisine with the finest of ingredients and an intriguing wine list.
